Macintosh OS Courses

For classes on Mac OS versions eariler than Panther (OS 10.3), contact us for more information. We have custom solutions for every need. All classes are half day unless otherwise noted.

Beginning Mac OS X
Get acquainted with the Macintosh operating system! Designed for users without previous computer experience. Learn to navigate the new interface and manage preferences and settings. Run applications, launch Classic, cover from crashes, and more basic skills. Learn about the Dock, manage user folders, save and retrieve your files, and find anything with Sherlock.

Migrating to OS X
This course is designed for users migrating from 9.x to OS X, and for Switchers from the PC. Move easily to your new operating system by applying what you already know to OS X. Manage Classic, use existing and new applications, figure out where your fonts go, and all the basic functions of the operating system, including all the topics in the Beginning class.

Intermediate Mac OS X
This course provides training on intermediate functions of Mac OS X for users who are current users of the latest version. This course is not designed for novice users. A great next step for anyone who's attended Beginning Mac OS X, or Migrating to OS X. Topics to be covered will include Location Manager and Internet access; backing up to CD; using Utilities; advanced use of Sherlock; Login Preferences, and creating and managing users.

You and Your Mac Series

This four part series repeats throughout the year. Take any or all, and get the most from your Macintosh.

You & Your Fun Mac

Part 1: iPhoto, iTunes, .Mac

Covers your pictures and music, camera, iPod, and .Mac account (optional). Import, manage and share it all with ease, power and fun.

You & Your Internet Mac

Part 2: Safari, Sherlock, Mail, .Mac

Covers Internet browsing, Sherlock channels, email accounts & .Mac features (optional).

You & Your Organized Mac

Part 3: iCal, Address Book, Text Edit, iSync

Stay organized, share text files, print labels & phone lists, use email groups & more.

You & Your Practical Mac

Part 4: Backup, Virex, iSync, .Mac

Bac kup your Mac, burn disks, use virus protection, sync it all. .Mac account required.

 AppleWorks 6
Introduction to AppleWorks 6
This course is designed to provide an introduction to AppleWorks 6, focusing on basic word processing skills. Students will receive an overview of AppleWorks and its modules; learn how to use the basic formatting tools in the Word Processing module, use assistants, create and use templates, and create a simple spreadsheet.
 
Holiday Edition AppleWorks 6
This special version of our AppleWorks 6 course focuses on holiday-oriented tasks. Learn how to print address labels and create gorgeous holiday cards and invitations. AppleWorks makes it fun and easy, and you'll learn how to use templates and the extensive library of clip art accessible in AppleWorks.
 
Getting Results with AppleWorks 6
This course is designed to teach in-depth features of AppleWorks 6. Students will practice using advanced word processing tools; using the Assistant to create a database; print mailing labels; and use frames to combine the power of different AppleWorks modules. Students will create graphic elements and link them to text frames to flow text and graphics.

Seniors And Novices
Macintosh for Novices - All About Your Mac (Two-day course)
Learn everything in Beginning Mac OS, in a class limited to 6, and lots of gentle, patient instruction. This class is designed for the senior user, and the novice who needs a slow pace.

Macintosh for Novices - Intermediate Mac OS X (Two-day course)
This two day course provides training on intermediate functions of Mac OS X for senior users currently using the latest version of the Mac OS. This course is the next step for anyone who's attended All About Your Mac. Topics to be covered will include Internet access; backing up to CD; using Utilities; Login Preferences, in-depth System Preferences, and creating and managing users. This course is taught in the same length and style as other novice classes.

Macintosh for Novices - Internet and E-Mail for Novices (Two-day course)
Understand what the Internet is and how it works. Get the most from Internet Explorer and Safari; learn what tools exist for finding the information you want. Get better results searching by using the right tool for the job. This class is designed for the senior user who wants a basic understanding of the Internet, and instructor-led practice. Get a grip on your e-mail with Mail! Learn how e-mail works and how to setup your e-mail account. Get clear on sending and receiving attachments, using signatures and managing e-mail accounts and folders. This class is designed for the novice or senior user who wants a basic understanding of e-mail, and instructor-led practice.

Internet Courses

Internet 101
This course provides an in-depth look at the Internet and the World Wide Web. Students will learn powerful features of browsers; take a survey of the wide variety of Internet search tools, and practice in-depth search techniques. Maximize your searches; understand the 'alphabet soup' of acronyms; learn to use Internet appliances like Sherlock and Watson.

E-Mail 101
Bring your email account information and all your questions to this hands-on class. Learn how to set up your email account; use different formats in your messages; manage attachments like photos and files; manage junk mail; use your address book, and more tips. We'll discuss .Mac and other Internet based email accounts, and help you decide which solution works for you. Have fun and make your email experience effortless!

Microsoft Office

All Office classes are taught using version 2004 or 2008. For earlier versions, contact us directly for custom solutions!

Introduction to Microsoft Office
Learn to use Office-wide tools such as the Format Painter, the Address Book, Help and the Office Assistant, etc. Install extras from the Value Pack. Customize toolbars; create and save templates, and integrate Entourage with the rest of the suite. Find what features are new in Microsoft Office. Learn basic word processing and spreadsheet skills, and get ready to move to the next level.

Word Power Tools (Full day)
Students receive hands-on practice in creating and saving documents. You'll use numbered and bulleted lists, create tables; and use the Formatting Palette to easily edit your formats. You'll create and apply styles using the Style Gallery; merge letters using the Data Merge Manager, and even add graphics to your documents! Learn the power of Find & Replace; manage preferences; control AutoText and AutoCorrect. You'll leave a power user.

Prerequisite: Introduction to Microsoft Office, or equivalent experience (instructor's discretion).

Excel Power Tools (Full day)
Students will learn to use basic formulas and the AutoSum function, link worksheets in a workbook, format a worksheet and set printing options. You learn about creating charts; naming ranges; creating powerful lists with the List Manager; creating forms for list entries, and more powerful tools.Get productive quickly by understanding how to use the easy yet powerful features in the best version of Excel ever.

Prerequisite: Introduction to Microsoft Office, or equivalent experience (instructor's discretion).

Entourage Power Tools (Full day)
If you thought Entourage was just a powerful email application, you're missing out on a robust personal information manager! Learn how to use the Calendar, Tasks and Notes to track all your events and to-dos. Link your contacts, events, to-dos and email, and even external files to make meaningful connections with everything you do. Let Categories keep you organized, while Custom Views gives you one-click access to filtering your data. Use Reminders to make sure you never forget a thing.

Prerequisite: Introduction to Microsoft Office, or equivalent experience (instructor's discretion).

Getting Results with PowerPoint
Even if you don't think you'll ever give a presentation, you will enjoy learning how to create a slide show of your photos, or amazing graphic files using PowerPoint. Create a QuickTime movie to share your presentation easily. Anyone who presents will get great results learning to use QuickTime transitions, slide animations, sounds and clip art to create stunning presentations. It's easier than you think, and a lot of fun.

Prerequisite: Introduction to Microsoft Office, or equivalent experience (instructor's discretion).

Payment/Return/Credit Policy

Payment is due in full at the time of class. We accept cash, checks and money orders. If we cancel a class, you can either apply payment to another class of equal or lesser value, or request a full refund. If you pay in advance for a class, and are unable to attend, your tuition will be applied to another class of equal or lesser value. You must notify us 24 hours before class to be eligible for this offer. You can retake a class within six months of your original attendance date. Only the same class can be retaken.
